Travel Tip #1: AirBnB

March 6, 2017

· Airbnb,February,Travel

Prior to becoming an avid AirBnB user, I was overpaying for cramped, uncomfortable, and inconvenient locations. Until recently, I would make the not so smart choice and ended up at these unfortunate places. Since September of last year though, things have changed.

AirBnB is an online hospitality service that allows people to list or rent their apartments as well as hotel rooms, hostel beds, and other forms of accommodations. It is now used all over the world by millions of users and has been around since 2008. However, up until recently, it wasn’t a common site to use. Now, as an avid traveler, I hear people reference the site constantly. For example, I can be at a bar and hear someone say, “I used this AirBnB to get this sick apartment in Paris,” or “I got this cheap and awesome studio apartment through AirBnb.” The sites ability to be a platform for people to host their homes is revolutionary for the hospitality industry.

My next adventure will be taking me to Gran Canaria, an island part of the Canary Islands. I used AirBnB to book all of the accommodations for the trip. And thank goodness for that! Without AirBnB I could be stuck paying hundreds of dollars for hotels—something that I am not willing to pay. Instead, with this platform, I am able to find affordable, clean, and more personable accommodations. Not to mention unique. I get to sleep on a boat for two nights as well! By making vacationing more reasonably priced, a lot of people that did not have the option to travel before do now.

I have used this site for lodging purposes in Berlin, Prague, Innsbruck, Timisoara, Bucharest, and Gran Canarias. Although not that many, I recently really delved into the site and continue to do so. My good friend, Tyler, has used it a lot more. He is currently in South Korea and uses it when he plans trips up to Seoul. Every time he sends me pictures of his accommodations, I am super jealous. However, the places he books through AirBnB are homier and appear to beat anything you would get from any hotel.

What I wanted to do was share with you one of my biggest tips while traveling: AirBnB will save your life! This site is so awesome. I wish I had discovered it earlier. And it is all over the world. There are over three million listings in 191 countries. I guarantee you, you can find a place to stay. If you are attempting to find a place to stay that is affordable and still awesome, this site is perfect. It has made traveling for me that much better. I hope you all consider this tip next time you travel!
